General gist of it…

Friend: Just saw someone with a pirate hat. I want one!
Me: Aiyo… I’m sure the costume shop has em.
Friend: A bit late now, isn’t it?
Me: Don’t they have discounts after Halloween? :P
Friend: And wear it after Halloween?!
Me: You just said you wanted one, you didn’t say you wanted one to celebrate Halloween. :P
Friend: Halloween is the only time you can wear it without people thinking you’re crazy.
Me: Post Halloween Syndrome?
Friend: Does it even exist?
Me: No… but you can exhibit it and I can “discover” it.
Me: :P Then I can write an article for Psychology Journal.
Friend: No thanks. :P
Me: Aw, there goes my chance at fame and fortune.

Names edited out to protect reputations, text edited for clarity/grammar/spellings. :P

Yes, more tests.

I did the pen/paper version of this and I got a 40. Had the shock of my life because that’s 2x the required score for “masculine".

The same test, but electronic version, I input results again (without referring to my pen/paper answers), and I got a -22, which is below “feminine".

Doh. Next time I’ll just do a survey from people instead.

Ugh. For the past 12 hours I’ve been getting comment-spammed on jrnl (which is still running on b2, the wordpress upgrade messed up the layout and my quotations!) about some Texas poker or something like that. I didn’t really read the comment to remember what it was about, hehe. 40+ comments so far! Wow, I’ve never felt so popular in my life. Thank goodness for phpMyAdmin. XD Mass deletion, mwahahaha. There are definitely perks in having extra access.

On other news for the past week, I’ve gotten Debian installed (twice, I messed up the first time when I played with some system configuration file without knowing what I was doing) on my laptop yesterday night, and it hasn’t died on me yet thus far. Am going to wait out a few days and see if the same thing as what happened to Windows will happen this time around… perhaps I shall attempt another Windows install later on? Yea, that’s a thought.

Also, I’ve been mistaken for a guy on IRC. Yes, again. Do I - to quote a friend - “talk like a bloke” or something? People who know me tell me otherwise, but they already know that I’m female anyway, so… :

I almost never write cursive (because it’s something I’d rather admire in people than to attempt to mutilate myself), but for this analysis (that is linked from BLOGGED) I attempted and the results came out true in some parts. Comments in bold, other stuff straight from the analysis.

So… how on Earth a game of “rock, paper, or scissors” on IRC can get intense?

Baffling. :P

I’m on the verge of being sucked into some manga. Eeps. This is a really bad time to start reading a manga that has more than 100 volumes (I’m not sure how many, and god knows how many chapters each).

Psst. Another 1GB free email service. ^_^ Yep! They upgraded their service to 1GB recently. And, er, I don’t know German exactly, so I’m not sure how I managed to get a free email there other than bullshitting my way through the signup like I did numerous times before. I kept it because their spam filters are awesome, I use that email to signup for a lot of crap and everything gets filtered out. Some of those ads they have onsite are pretty suggestive-looking. For most part I ignore them or ad-blocked them, so I can’t really say for sure if they still have it or not.

Now I have 3GB of email space (Gmail, Spymac, and GMX), and this doesn’t even include my Yahoo! and Hotmail mailboxes that I keep for the messengers and games. What on Earth am I going to do with them?

I hope this is not a real town.

WAHAHAHAHAHA. XD

And speaking of weird names, did you know that Alexia (while it sounds like a pretty girly name) is actually defined as “Loss of the ability to read, usually caused by brain lesions. Also called word blindness"? ;) Time to feel glad if you’re stuck with a common name.

Your Brain Usage Profile:

Auditory : 56%
Visual : 43%
Left : 52%
Right : 47%

No surprise on the auditory/visual score, since I’ve always known that I learn better via sounds than via visuals. No surprise on the left/right hemisphere of the brain too, since I’ve always been more controlling on “randomness", more biased towards what’s logical.

Anyone notice that none of those (auditory/visual or left/right) adds up to 100%? What happened to my 1% of the brain?!

I’m so bored lately. Literati, anyone? I know a lot of people who used to Literati stopped. No idea why, but probably because other games *cough*Sims 2*cough* are more appealing these days.

What a fine, slightly cloudy day. I… don’t think it’s raining, but that’s hard to tell in England.

But it’s friggin’ 4°C!

And Yahoo! says that it feels like 1°C (pure water freezes at 0°C). Weather.com takes it even further, saying that it’s 3°C and feels like 0.5°C. *goes crazy*

Live Bookmarks is a really nifty feature, especially at sites that actually uses the codes that indicated there are RSS feeds associated with the site. Rather convenient way to add it to the list of bookmarked feeds in Firefox by just clicking on the orange button on the status bar (but a real pain to add when sites with RSS feeds doesn’t have the codes to tell the browser so… you have to go all the way to Manage Bookmarks and do it).

But I’m still testing it out, wondering if I’ll like it better than Sage, which I’m pretty used to by now. Does Live Bookmarks inform you of fresh (note: unread) articles since your last visit? Or not? It would be rather pointless to use it if it doesn’t…

PS: Yes, I got my Windows back, finally. And I’ve had enough of NTFS. Screw the additional security, I want full RWX access to my damned files. Now I just need to backup my things and format the other partition. *nod*

Edit: Live Bookmarks requires manual refresh. Guess it’s back to Sage… I really don’t have the time to go through each of my bookmark, rightclick, and select refresh.

Quite annoying. I think I’m going to take a screwdriver to my laptop soon.

Cross your fingers for me and hope nothing bad happens.

Edit: So I did it. Screwdrivered all the screws (after I managed to locate my mini-screwdriver set… they came in handy after all!), but I broke what’s left of my nails on trying to open the case. The keyword is “trying” though, meaning I hadn’t succeeded yet. I’m scared of breaking the case, dammit. Hrrm.

Hrm… Knoppix auto-detected everything. Very nice. :) I was almost afraid to try it out due to possible headaches concerning anything Linux-related.

(yep, Windows died again)

I don’t think it even took up 5 minutes, heh, despite their tagline. Though I do miss my familiar programs! But better than not being able to do my daily tasks. :P

I do remember what I liked about Linux though. The multiple desktops. :P It’s a pretty great way to stay organised. No idea if this is specific to KDE or whatever, since I’ve only used KDE before. I think it’s possible with a different Windows shell… with a program like LiteStep, but they lag the computer so.

Here Without You by 3 Doors Down. Everyone complains about how mainstream and unoriginal they have become since the release of their second album. But… <3 I’ve listened to this song so many times and I’m still not sick of it.

Yes, tastes changing… or developing into something else. :) Real softie now (or what the music-snobs like to call pop-pretending-to-be-rock). The reviews on the album is kind of mixed, like you either love it or hate it.

One of the reviews on Amazon.com cracked me up:

6. HERE WITHOUT YOU (A): Be Like That was the softie on their first album. Be Like That wishes it could be like this.

Roffle. Gotta admit I liked Be Like That too, but I like this song better.

I is a dork… my mobile phone was resting on the right side of my laptop, and in a state of forgetfulness, I actually grabbed it and tried to use it as a mouse, and was wondering why the hell the cursor isn’t moving! >:O

*glances at her USB mouse that she disconnected*

Probably because both of them are silver in colour and about the same size (since the phone is a clamshell type). Couldn’t have anything to do with my sanity. Nope.

I ‘ate using the touchpad. Blahy.

In the event that I can’t use my puter anymore (this is the first time it booted up since yesterday afternoon), please don’t email me at Gmail (if you’re planning on my being able to read it) even if it’s the email that I check most because school computers just can’t load that thing with its applet and all. Not kidding there. I’ve even stopped my university email from forwarding over in case I lose announcements. I think I may have corrupted a system file here or there, and guess what? No OS CD here. Can’t do the whole format+reinstall thing. Meh. I knew I forgot to bring something when I came over.

Plan A: Try to beg for a CD from someone in the halls. If that doesn’t work…
Plan B: Try to get it sent from home (which might take a couple of weeks, but I’ll try not to die from deprivation).

*nodnod* This will blow over soon. I hope. *crosses fingers*

The above title is ambiguous. ;) But anyway.

Tofu doesn’t taste bad. It’s just bean curd. In fact, tofu doesn’t really taste like anything. It has the chameleon-like quality of taking on the flavor of whatever you mix it with; kind of like that spineless, sidekick friend who used to follow you around in high school, mindlessly adopting your opinions. Bad quality for a friend, good quality for a protein.

ROFLMAO. What a wonderful review on tofu (and it’s from a not-so-tofu-related site, but you can ignore that, I just wanted to credit the site I jipped that off). And that last part was oh-so-true. XD

But I still think there are better-tasting things out there as a source of protein. :P

For the online quiz, I got a hybrid of GND+PG. o_O

My computer has been rather crash-happy lately, after the installation and uninstallation of WinXP SP2. Why I uninstalled it? Because after its installation my computer started lagging so badly that there was one point where I actually fell asleep waiting for programs to load.

I’m serious. And people were wondering why I don’t respond to IM’s the other night? That’s the reason.

Today morning I found out that Windows wouldn’t start, it kept giving me the digital finger (I can’t decide if that’s the black screen or the infamous BSoD, but either one works now, it’s just telling you that the friggin’ OS won’t start!). When it’s feeling conversational, occasionally it will tell me that there’s a Protection Error or some sort, and some other times it’ll tell me no OS found. Lovely.

I only got it to start minutes ago and I’m crossing my fingers hoping that it won’t die on me again, but it seems like the crash has caused me to lost half of my partially downloaded things so I need to resume at a much much further spot, and it lost all of my WhatPulse keystrokes. Not that I needed more, but still. My download! *sobs*

Life’s great.

I hit my 1,000,000th keystroke on WhatPulse sometime yesterday. *throws confetti* Well, I don’t think some people are very happy with me. :P But think of the good those keystrokes are doing to our group ranking! We’re now at 174th! Top 100 before the end of October? :D It’s currently… oh, 10,000,000+ keystrokes away. That calculates that our group need at least 500,000 keystrokes a day to make it there. Go team!

Don’t ask why I was looking at such slippers (there is a reason behind it, but it’s long story, heh), but I thought this was [overpriced, but] cute.

*pounce* Rawr! XD Kinda like those monster feet slippers, isn’t it? ‘Cept they’re not… um, green and purple.

And heh, there are bear claws too! I’m so tempted to get a pair of polar bear ones for someone I know, but I’m not sure if it’ll be appreciated by the… uh, class polar bear.

Me: Hrrm, your bike keeps on getting lost… o_O
Brother #3: i’m talented
Me: Yea
Me: Apparently so
Brother #3: actually, the correct phrase would be, my bike keeps getting stolen
Brother #3: twice by strangers, once by dad
Brother #3: dad sold my old one for RM8 as scrap metal
Me: LOL
Brother #3: T_T

Hahahahahah. My poor brother. XD RM8.00 is like, US$2.10.

I can’t verify this since I have no baking or cooking skills whatsoever, but I found it online and thought I’d share to those bake-a-holics who’d like to try it out. ;)

Ingredients:
2 cups of softened margarine
2 medium eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cups light brown sugar
3/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon water
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 and 1/2 cups flour
2 cups raisins
1 package of chocolate chips

Directions:
Mix together margarine, eggs, vanilla, sugars, water and baking soda. Gradually add the flour, salt and chocolate and any other things that you add to cookies such as nuts or raisins. Mix well; place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 for 8 minutes. Makes 6 dozen.

If it turns out well and it’s not poisonous, feel free to send some over. Teehee.

Remember how I was whining about comment spam and the fact that WP only queues it up for moderation? Looks like those can be auto-deleted the moment it tripped the blacklisted criterias now, thanks to the release of WP-Blacklist 2.5. And while you’re at it, you can specify if you want those deleted comments to be emailed to you or not. :D Don’t you just love him? I’m not sure if stalkers are allowed, it’s probably a better idea to ask him about that, but I figured that you may as well go ahead and proclaim your love as your eternal gratitude as he hath saved you from numerous non-related comments on your WP-powered blog about poker, loans, and cialis.

Keke. I know a lot of people who could use this plugin. I mean, come on, 5 to 6 comments a minute? That’s a lot of comments to swim through and delete, and to double-check you haven’t deleted anything that might be someone else’s perfectly acceptable (and perhaps a good start to a discussion) comment. Saving 10 minutes a day of deleting spam means 70 minutes a week, and that’s like a perfectly good show on TV plus the commercials that you can skip if you just switch the channel. ;)

On August 21st, I posted the following that could happen to a Malaysian blogger who has controversial content under the ISA:

… watch out what you say or who knows when your words might catch up with you and get you arrested under the ISA (that would be the Internal Security Act). In short, this means “don’t create social unrest", which could mean any sort of controversial articles you might have typed up. How can you prove that you’re not guilty of that when you have no idea who read what you wrote online or how your words might be twisted around to be used against yourself?

And today someone sent me this little link. And that’s not even a post made by the blogger that is a problem, it’s a comment by a reader that’s causing the owner of the weblog (who is Malaysian) problems.

But looking at the weblog, things seems to be progressing towards an action taken against the commentor instead of the blogger, so all is fine. But still, this gag against free speech. Hrm. I haven’t seen the comment yet though, it may be really out-of-line, who knows.

Testing out Gaim for the heck of it. I got a little bored of Trillian… not too sure why. Gaim is rather cute, really, has a couple of functions that Trillian doesn’t have that I find rather nifty (at the moment). But it also can be tiring or annoying after a while, it really rather depends. Gaim is free though, unlike Trillian which has two different versions, and the free one seriously sucks and lacking in a lot of features.

What I miss most about Trillian is the cute emoticons it had and the container feature that had proved rather useful. Granted Gaim has a tabbed conversation feature that is also rather nifty, but it’s just not the same since all the windows will be the same size as the “container” no matter what, so you can’t populate the container with several messaging windows in view at the same time (which I’m used to in Trillian). Trillian also has the skinning feature that I don’t think Gaim has, but this I’m not so interested in since I don’t really bother with skins anyway.

But Gaim actually works with Yahoo!M, which is rather a perk that I needed a few months back and now… not so much. Gaim supports more messaging devices, even those that I’ve never heard of before, but doesn’t have as pretty an interface as Trillian. I think Gaim has the chat feature for MSN, which was seriously lacking in Trillian unless you’re invited into one (meaning you can’t invite or something), which was really a pet peeve when I need to initiate group conversation or conferences.

By the way, does anyone know that Trillian 2.01 is out now? I think the one I’m using is v2.0.

Edit: :O I got Trillian emoticons in Gaim! The thanks for the little bit of info goes to Wei, and the secret is here. Do I like? Yes I do! :D Even though the emoticons look a bit jagged at the edges, but man, I missed the dancing emoticon. So bouncy! XD

Happy Birthday Psyche! :) Try to stay alive through the exams. Keke.

… proportions don’t matter. Real Chinese cooks wouldn’t consider using a recipe.

Roffle. That’s probably what my father would say. No wonder my mother never quite bothered with recipes for her cooking (that still turns out great, by the way), and she can’t follow any either. :P And while we’re at it, I can’t cook with recipes either! XD But that’s just cause I can’t cook, not because of my ethnicity.

Been getting comment spam from 12.215.220.247 about Party Poker and Payday Loans. ;) Anyone who wants to block that IP? Sorry to any AT&T users affected, but it is very annoying.

If anyone has any common spammers IPs to contribute, comment and I’m gonna add it to my .htaccess. Tired of deleting all the comments-in-moderation and too lazy to install wp-blacklist plugin. Will get around to it someday when I’m in a better mood. Blah.

Slow down, you crazy child
You’re so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you’re so smart, tell me
Why are you still so afraid?

Where’s the fire, what’s the hurry about?
You’d better cool it off before you burn it out
You’ve got so much to do and
Only so many hours in a day

But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want or you can just get old
You’re gonna kick off before you even
Get halfway through
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you’re doing fine
You can’t be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it’s so romantic on the borderline tonight
Tonight…
Too bad but it’s the life you lead
You’re so ahead of yourself that you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you’re wrong, you know
You can’t always see when you’re right, you’re right

You’ve got your passion, you’ve got your pride
But don’t you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don’t imagine they’ll all come true
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you crazy child
And take the phone off the hook and disappear for awhile
It’s all right, you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize…Vienna waits for you?

And you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want or you can just get old
You’re gonna kick off before you even get half through
Why don’t you realize, Vienna waits for you
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Inspired by a JRNL entry.

The first time I used the computer… was when I was four. To play DOS games, of course. Alley cat! XD I also remember being addicted to various puzzle games, and a couple of car-racing ones.

The first time I used Windows… Brother #1 had to drag all of us kicking and screaming into the world of multiple programs running at once. Before that, it was DOS all the way.

The first time I got online… was when I was twelve. Before that I only used the computer to type out my stories and my journal entries. Brother #2 taught me how to get connected via dail-up, and he told me all about searching with Yahoo! because I was fascinated by his acquisition of Sammi Cheng’s photos that he printed out.

The first thing I did when I got online… was to search for Backstreet Boys fansites. No, seriously!

The first time I tried to disconnect from the Internet… I shut down the computer. Yep, that’s me. Couldn’t for the life of me figure it out how to disconnect the damn thing, and it was billed by the minute. Brother #1 threw a fit. I don’t remember why. But… why?! It did the job, didn’t it?
